CS/HB 7047 - Sex Offenses Summary

• Replaces "instant message name" with "Internet identifier" throughout sexual predator and offender registration statutes to modernize terminology for online communication identifiers.

• Expands sexual predator and offender qualifying offenses by adding sections 796.045, 847.0137, and 847.0138 to the list of crimes requiring registration.

• Enhances indecent exposure penalties by making a third or subsequent violation a felony of the third degree instead of a misdemeanor.

• Tightens bail requirements by prohibiting release on bail or surety bond for registered sexual offenders/predators until their first court appearance, except for misdemeanor-only charges.

• Requires national sex offender registry searches before state agencies and governmental subdivisions appoint or employ persons to work in locations where children regularly congregate.

• Effective date: October 1, 2012
