More than 1.1 million American adults experience functional limitations or difficulty with daily living resulting from stroke, making it a leading cause of long-term disability.

Estimated direct and indirect costs of stroke in the United States will exceed $73.7 billion annually, with a stroke occurring every 40 seconds and a life lost every 4 minutes.

Urges all Florida residents to become familiar with stroke warning signs, symptoms, and risk factors, particularly noting that African Americans have almost twice the risk of first stroke compared to Caucasians.
