SB 20 Summary

• Directs the Division of Administrative Hearings to appoint an administrative law judge to determine if wrongful acts or omissions by the State of Florida, State Attorney's Office for the Sixth Judicial Circuit, or Pinellas County Sheriff's Office occurred against Brian Pitts, and award up to $375,000 in compensation if found.

• Declares null and void all final orders, judgments, convictions, and liens in specified cases (SC06-1279, SC02-247, and eight criminal case numbers) involving Pitts, and directs removal of all related records from public and private access.

• Authorizes Pitts to practice law in Florida as a lay counselor or lay representative under various designations including qualified representative, designated representative, attorney in fact, and realty property manager, among others.

• Directs the Department of Law Enforcement to investigate criminal violations by Florida Supreme Court justices, appellate judges, trial judges, state attorneys, The Florida Bar, and Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, with charges to be brought before a Leon County grand jury within one year.

• Protects Pitts' right to appear before the Legislature and represent himself in legal proceedings without constituting the unauthorized practice of law.
