District School Board of Sumter County is directed to pay Donald Brown $2,551,375.83 in compensation for injuries sustained in a October 18, 2004 motorcycle collision caused by negligent operation of a school bus by employee Patsy C. Foxworth.

Payment includes $31,674.12 in taxable costs and interest accruing at 11 percent per annum from the March 2, 2009 judgment date until payment is made.

Brown's right leg was amputated below the knee in the collision and subsequently above the knee due to complications, requiring continuous medical care and resulting in his medical retirement from federal employment.

The $2,551,375.83 represents the final judgment amount after Circuit Court Judge Michelle T. Morley reduced a jury verdict of $2,941,240.60 on March 2, 2009, which was affirmed by the Fifth District Court of Appeal on February 18, 2011.

Attorney's fees, lobbying fees, costs, and other similar expenses relating to this claim may not exceed 25 percent of the amount awarded.
