Parents, legal guardians, or caretakers must make reasonable efforts to notify law enforcement of a minor's disappearance within 12 hours after discovering the disappearance.

Violation of the notification requirement constitutes a third-degree felony, with penalties prescribed under Florida Statutes sections 775.082, 775.083, and 775.084.

Effective date is October 1, 2012.
