Creates section 775.0876, F.S. to reclassify criminal offenses when committed by a person acting under color of law, defined as conduct based on public authority or position.

Reclassifies offenses by one level: misdemeanor of the second degree to first degree; misdemeanor of the first degree to felony of the third degree; felony of the third degree to second degree; felony of the second degree to first degree; felony of the first degree to life felony.

Requires felony offenses reclassified under this section to be ranked one level above their standard ranking under the sentencing guidelines in sections 921.0022 or 921.0023.

Excludes offenses where acting under color of law is a necessary element of the underlying misdemeanor or felony from the reclassification provisions.

Takes effect July 1, 2012.
