SB 526 Summary

• Renames Chapter 385, Florida Statutes as the "Healthy and Fit Florida Act" and establishes comprehensive state and community-level programs for chronic disease prevention, health promotion, physical fitness, and obesity prevention.

• Transfers and renumbers several cancer-related programs within the Department of Health, including the Jessie Trice Cancer Prevention Program, Prostate Cancer Awareness Program, William G. "Bill" Bankhead Jr. and David Coley Cancer Research Program, and breast and cervical cancer early detection programs.

• Removes the requirement that the Department of Health limit breast and cervical cancer screenings based on projected Medicaid expenditures, allowing expanded access to screening services.

• Authorizes state agencies to conduct employee wellness programs and requires the Department of Health to serve as a model for developing and implementing such programs, with the Department coordinating efforts with the Department of Management Services.

• Amends the statewide cancer registry requirements to expand reporting obligations to laboratories and practitioners, removes penalties for non-compliance, and requires facilities to make records available for onsite review by the Department of Health.
