High schools must give at least 75 percent credit toward their graduation rate for each student who receives a high school equivalency diploma, beginning with the 2012-2013 school year.

High school equivalency diplomas are given equal status with other high school diplomas for state purposes, including admission to state universities and Florida College System institutions.

The State Board of Education shall adopt rules allowing high school equivalency diploma holders to earn a standard high school diploma upon meeting designated criteria.

High school graduation rates used in school grading calculations must include the 75 percent credit for high school equivalency diploma recipients starting in 2012-2013.

The act takes effect July 1, 2012.
