Saves from repeal a public records exemption for personal identifying information and insurance policy numbers held by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles related to personal injury protection and property damage liability insurance policies.

Removes the October 2, 2012 sunset date that would have caused the exemption to expire under the Open Government Sunset Review Act.

Clarifies that the exemption applies to information held before, on, or after October 11, 2007.

Maintains existing provisions allowing release of policy numbers to accident victims, their attorneys, or representatives of involved insurers upon written request and submission of a crash report.

Takes effect October 1, 2012.
