Revises requirements for written prescriptions issued by health care practitioners to include: practitioner name, drug name and strength, quantity, clear statement of purpose, directions for use, date, and practitioner signature.

Adds requirement that written prescriptions must be legibly printed or typed so pharmacists can understand them.

Establishes separate requirements for electronically generated prescriptions, including all written prescription elements plus electronic signature capability as defined in statute 668.003(4).

Requires drug labels on dispensed medicinal drugs to include a legible, clear statement of the purpose for which the drug is being prescribed.

Effective date: July 1, 2012.
