Counties are prohibited from preventing owners or operators of taxicabs, limousines, jitneys, or other passenger vehicles for hire from imposing credit card surcharges on passenger fares.

Municipalities are prohibited from preventing owners or operators of taxicabs, limousines, jitneys, or other passenger vehicles for hire from imposing credit card surcharges on passenger fares.

Passenger vehicle fares are exempted from the general state prohibition on credit card surcharges found in section 501.0117.

The definition of "credit card" in section 501.0117 is expanded to include cards for which unpaid balances are payable on demand.

The act takes effect July 1, 2012.
