Authorizes district school boards to set opening dates for schools earlier than the standard 14 days before Labor Day if necessary to complete student classwork and assessments for fall-term courses.

Allows schools to advance the opening date only by the number of days needed to enable students to finish all fall-term coursework and assessments 5 days before Christmas Day.

Removes the "beginning with the 2007-2008 school year" language from existing law regarding the 14-day pre-Labor Day opening date requirement.

Takes effect July 1, 2012.
