CS/CS/HB 127 Summary

• District school boards must convene at least one regular meeting each quarter beginning no earlier than 5 p.m. and must create written criteria for these quarterly meetings.

• District school boards must consider agenda items proposed by the superintendent or board members when exercising general powers.

• Students whose parent dies while attending a public school may remain enrolled at that school until promotion to middle/high school or graduation, unless they have been suspended in school more than once, expelled, or suspended out of school.

• Emergency lockdown drills must be conducted at least as often as evacuation drills, with local law enforcement or fire officials encouraged to participate in and review at least one lockdown drill per school annually; designated staff must submit after-drill reports to the district.

• District school boards must annually receive and publicly discuss self-assessment results regarding school safety and security practices based on standards developed by the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability.
