HB 235 Summary

• Adds notice of approval of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services as valid proof of identity for Florida driver license applications.

• Establishes that driver licenses issued based on employment authorization cards or nonimmigrant classification documents are valid for no more than 1 year or until the document expires, whichever comes first.

• Requires individuals using employment authorization or nonimmigrant classification documents to obtain duplicate/replacement licenses and renew licenses in person with the same documentation.

• Requires individuals using employment authorization or nonimmigrant classification documents to change their name or address on a driver license only in person with the same documentation.

• Effective date: July 1, 2013.
