CS/HB 241 Summary

• Establishes the Community Health Worker Task Force within a state college or university, with the Department of Health providing administrative support and services.

• Defines community health workers as front-line health care workers who serve as liaisons between health care services and communities, providing education, advocacy, care coordination, and support in medically underserved areas.

• Task force consists of 12 members: one Senate member, one House member, one state official, six community health workers, and three Florida Community Health Worker Coalition representatives, with members serving without compensation.

• Task force shall develop recommendations for integrating community health workers into health care reform, Medicaid programs, health navigation assistance, and health care delivery teams, and standardize worker qualifications and skills.

• Task force must meet at least quarterly (in person, by teleconference, or electronic means), with a quorum of seven members required, and must submit findings and recommendations to the Governor and Legislature by June 30, 2014.
