HB 293 Summary

• Deletes duties relating to unidentified person reporting forms and redesignates the statewide automated fingerprint identification system as the statewide automated biometric identification system to include palm prints and facial images

• Revises provisions for missing child and adult reports, including immunity protections for agencies releasing information in good faith and handling of birth records of missing children

• Requires fingerprints, palm prints, and facial images to be collected from persons charged with or convicted of felonies, certain misdemeanors, and specific juvenile offenses, with electronic submission to the Department of Law Enforcement

• Authorizes retention of fingerprints for missing persons and various background screening programs (educators, scholarship organizations, contractors, guardians) in the biometric identification system for ongoing arrest record searches

• Takes effect July 1, 2013
