City of Haines City directed to appropriate and pay $825,094 to Thomas and Karen Brandi as compensation for injuries sustained in a March 26, 2005 vehicle accident caused by a Haines City police officer running a red light at excess speed.

Thomas Brandi suffered life-threatening injuries including aortic arch tear, fractured ribs and sternum, multiple fractures, and severe traumatic brain injury with resulting cognitive and psychological disorders.

Jury verdict assessed city of Haines City 60 percent liability and Thomas Brandi 40 percent liability, resulting in net award of $1,084,396 after comparative negligence reduction.

Payment under this act and previous sovereign immunity payment of $200,000 constitute sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from the accident.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses relating to the claim may not exceed 25 percent of the total amount awarded under this act.
