HB 839 - Transparency in Animal Shelters Act

• Requires animal shelters, humane societies, pounds, and dog control officers that euthanize dogs or cats to compile monthly and annual summaries of animal statistics.

• Required summary data includes animals on hand at period start, surrendered by owners, impounded as strays, confiscated, transferred from other shelters, dead on arrival, returned to owners, adopted, transferred to other organizations, euthanized, lost or stolen, and remaining in custody.

• Executive directors must sign summaries certifying the information as true and accurate, with both public and private entities required to comply.

• Verified summaries must be posted on the entity's website within 5 business days after the first day of each month.

• Effective date is July 1, 2013.
