Requires one class period per day of physical education for one semester each year for students in grades 6 through 8, beginning with the 2009-2010 school year.

Allows physical education requirements to be waived for one semester each year if a student is enrolled in a remedial course.

Permits waiver if a parent requests in writing that the student enroll in another school-offered course, or if the student participates in physical activities outside school that equal or exceed the mandated requirement.

Allows waiver if a student submits a physician's note documenting health reasons that prevent participation in physical education.

Requires school districts to notify parents of waiver options before scheduling students for physical education; effective July 1, 2013.
