CS/HB 7117 - Transportation Facility Designations

• Designates 33 Florida transportation facilities with honorary names, including streets, highways, bridges, intersections, and a boat ramp across multiple counties (Miami-Dade, Volusia, Bay, Hillsborough, Broward, Gadsden, Jefferson, Taylor, Walton, St. Johns, Sarasota, and others).

• Directs the Department of Transportation to erect suitable markers at each designated facility to identify it by its new honorary name.

• Permits a private entity to erect a memorial marker in the wayside park on the north end of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge commemorating those who died on May 9, 1980, when the MV Summit Venture collided with the bridge, subject to department approval and private entity responsibility for all costs.

• Requires the private entity to provide an annual renewable bond, irrevocable letter of credit, or other approved security to cover removal costs and site modifications if the department determines removal or relocation necessary.

• Takes effect July 1, 2013.
