Designates 2013 as "Viva Florida 500 Year" to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de León's landing on Florida's east coast on April 2, 1513

Calls upon all Floridians to recognize and celebrate Florida's 500 years of history and cultural diversity, including Native American presence for at least 12,000 years and five flags flying over the state across five centuries

Encourages communities and citizens throughout Florida's 67 counties to participate in local Viva Florida 500 events and activities

Highlights Florida's historical significance including the first free African-American settlement at Fort Mose, the first incorporated black town in Eatonville, and being the first location of European settlement in continental North America predating Jamestown and Plymouth Rock by 94 and 107 years respectively

Recognizes Viva Florida 500 as an opportunity to generate cultural heritage tourism, attract new businesses, and stimulate economic development in Florida communities
