Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is recognized and commended for its worldwide service by the Florida House of Representatives.

The sorority was founded in 1908 at Howard University as the first sorority established by African-American college women, with chapters throughout Florida and other states.

The organization implements grassroots campaigns addressing human trafficking education, asthma prevention and management initiatives, voter registration and empowerment, and a distracted driver awareness program.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has partnered with organizations including the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Heifer International, and the American Cancer Society to address health disparities and global poverty.

Members in Florida contribute thousands of volunteer hours offering afterschool workshops, seminars, health forums, and tutorials for underprivileged children to eradicate poverty and poor health.
