City of Tallahassee authorized to pay $700,000 to Mark T. Sawicki and Sharon L. Sawicki as compensation for injuries sustained when a city solid waste vehicle struck Mr. Sawicki on his bicycle at the intersection of Call Street and North Monroe Street on October 7, 2009.

Mr. Sawicki sustained multiple fractures to his pelvis, femur, and other bones, a torn urethra, and neurological damage resulting in a dropped foot from the incident.

City of Tallahassee had already paid $200,000 under statutory liability limits in s. 768.28, Florida Statutes, with this $700,000 payment completing the settlement of Circuit Court Case No. 2010-CA-1984 filed June 7, 2010.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses relating to this claim may not exceed 25 percent of the $700,000 amount awarded.

Act takes effect upon becoming law.
