Authorizes the City of North Miami to appropriate and pay $1,611,237.33 to Maricelly Lopez as compensation for the wrongful death of her son, Omar Mieles, caused by negligence of a North Miami police officer.

Payment represents the outstanding balance of a $1,719,808.63 final judgment entered against the city in March 2010, with $108,571.30 already paid.

Jury verdict from March 19, 2010 apportioned 50 percent responsibility to the City of North Miami and 50 percent to the driver of the vehicle in which Omar Mieles was a passenger; the incident occurred on November 11, 2007 when Officer James Ray Thompson's police vehicle collided with the vehicle at the intersection of NW 46th Street and 7th Avenue.

Limits attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses to no more than 25 percent of the amount awarded under this act.

Takes effect upon becoming law.
