Replaces references to "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)" with "Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID)" throughout Florida law to reflect broader understanding that such deaths may result from natural, accidental, or criminal causes.

Requires birth centers and hospitals providing birthing services to include education on safe sleep practices and possible causes of SUID in postpartum instruction for newborn care.

Mandates that emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, and law enforcement officers receive training on SUID as part of their certification programs, with curriculum adopted by the Department of Health in consultation with relevant councils and the child protection teams.

Requires the Medical Examiners Commission to develop and implement a standardized forensic investigation protocol for SUID cases, including scene investigation requirements and tissue sampling criteria.

Effective July 1, 2013.
