SB 130 - Unemployment Compensation Summary

• Expands the definition of "good cause" for leaving work to include domestic violence situations where an employee reasonably believes continued employment will jeopardize their safety or their immediate family's safety, requiring substantiation by injunction, protective order, or similar documentation.

• Updates definitions in unemployment compensation law including agricultural labor, American vessel, casual labor, employing unit, employment, and other key terms to reflect current statutory references and clarify language.

• Modifies provisions regarding employee leasing companies' reporting requirements and client method elections for unemployment tax contributions.

• Clarifies the transfer of employment records between employers in business mergers, consolidations, or reorganizations, establishing procedures and timelines for successor employers to accept predecessor employment records.

• Takes effect July 1, 2013.
