Requires each district school board to provide disability history and awareness instruction in all K-12 public schools during the first two weeks of October each year, beginning with the 2014-2015 school year.

Mandates instruction cover the history of disability, the disability rights movement, civil rights of individuals with disabilities, and contributions of national disability leaders.

Allows instruction to be augmented by presentations from individuals with disabilities who meet background screening requirements under section 1012.465.

Requires each public school to establish a Disability History and Awareness Advisory Council consisting of six teachers and one community member with a disability, meeting at least four times annually.

Council responsibilities include providing curriculum input, locating disability community presenters, and submitting annual reports to the district superintendent with recommendations on disability awareness at the school.
