Bill McBride graduated from the University of Florida in 1967 and served as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1971, including a tour in Vietnam as a platoon commander and company commander.

McBride earned the 1968 Leadership Honor Graduate designation from Marine Corps Basic School, the 1969 Honor Graduate designation from Army Ranger School, and received the Bronze Star with Combat V for valorous action.

McBride graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Law in 1975 and worked as a managing partner at Holland and Knight law firm and later as a partner at Barnett Bolt Kirkwood Long McBride law firm.

McBride received numerous awards for pro bono legal work and public service, including the National Pro Bono Award from the Supreme Court of the United States, the Robert Saunders Leadership Award from the NAACP, and multiple humanitarian and civil rights awards.

The Florida Senate recognizes McBride's lifelong commitment to equality, justice, and advocacy for those unable to afford legal assistance, including his support for survivors of the Rosewood Massacre.
