Miami-Dade County Public Schools won the 2012 Broad Prize for Urban Education, an annual award recognizing urban school districts making the greatest progress in raising student achievement nationally

Miami-Dade County Public Schools outperformed students in major metropolitan area public schools on the National Assessment of Educational Progress Trial Urban District Assessment in science, mathematics, and reading

The school system was a finalist for the Broad Prize in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2011 before winning in 2012, and will receive $550,000 in college scholarships for graduating seniors

The Broad Prize recognition reflects Miami-Dade's concentrated approach in reading instruction, including summer reading camps and interventions across all school levels, as well as programs guiding middle school students to advanced-level and Advanced Placement courses
