Law enforcement officers are not required to notify the Department of Children and Families about suspected child abuse by non-caregiver adults when the incident was reported to law enforcement through the Central Abuse Hotline's electronic transfer system.

The Central Abuse Hotline is not required to electronically transfer calls and reports to the county sheriff's office if the matter was initially reported to the department by the county sheriff's office or another law enforcement agency.

These exemptions apply only when information about alleged child abuse is provided to law enforcement or hotline employees during the course of their official duties.

The act takes effect July 1, 2013.
