Deletes prohibition on discussing a patient's medical condition with persons other than the patient, legal representative, or healthcare providers involved in care.

Allows patient records to be released to the healthcare practitioner's or provider's attorney without prior written authorization, whether hired directly or by their insurer.

Permits prospective defendants or their legal representatives to conduct ex parte interviews with the claimant's treating healthcare providers without notice to or presence of the claimant or claimant's attorney.

Expands the authorization form for release of protected health information to include designated treating healthcare providers, their insurers, and attorneys, and allows these parties to conduct ex parte interviews with healthcare providers.

Effective July 1, 2013.
