• Creates s. 318.195, F.S., establishing enhanced penalties for moving violations causing serious bodily injury or death.

• Classifies a moving violation causing serious bodily injury to a pedestrian or motor vehicle occupant as a second-degree misdemeanor with a minimum $500 fine, 30 days incarceration, driver improvement course attendance, and 30-day license revocation.

• Classifies a moving violation causing or contributing to death as a first-degree misdemeanor with a minimum $1,000 fine, 90 days incarceration, advanced driver improvement course attendance, and 1-year license revocation.

• Preserves the ability to charge and convict violators under other applicable laws in addition to these penalties.

• Takes effect July 1, 2013.
