Karl served in World War II with the 20th and 2nd Armored Divisions in the European Theater, was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, and received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart

Served in the Florida House of Representatives representing the 14th District from 1956 to 1964 and in the Florida Senate from 1968 to 1971

Appointed to the Florida Supreme Court in 1977 by Governor Claude R. Kirk, Jr., serving through 1978, and later served as the state's first Public Counsel, Hillsborough County Attorney, and County Manager

Extends condolences to Karl's family, including his wife Mercedes and five children, as well as the Hillsborough County community
