SPB 7024 - State Technology Summary

• Creates the Department of State Technology as an executive agency under the Governor with a secretary serving as the state's Chief Information Officer, replacing the Agency for Enterprise Information Technology.

• Establishes a Technology Advisory Council with nine members appointed by the Governor, Cabinet, Speaker, and Senate President to advise on enterprise information technology policies, standards, and services.

• Transfers the Agency for Enterprise Information Technology, the Technology Program from the Department of Management Services, and the Northwood and Southwood Shared Resource Centers to the new Department of State Technology, along with related personnel, funds, and trust funds.

• Authorizes the Department of State Technology to design, deliver, and manage statewide enterprise information technology services; develop long-range technology plans; oversee technology projects exceeding $2.5 million annually; and establish policies for data protection and information technology procurement.

• Creates the Fletcher Shared Resource Center within the Department of Financial Services to consolidate data center operations and provide co-location services to the Department of Legal Affairs and Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; repeals outdated data center statutes; effective July 1, 2013.
