District school boards may provide disability history and awareness instruction during the first 2 weeks in October each year, designated as "Disability History and Awareness Weeks," beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.

Students may receive instruction on disability history, the disability rights movement, civil rights of individuals with disabilities, and contributions of national leaders with disabilities.

Instruction may be integrated into existing curriculum through lesson plans, school assemblies, or school-related activities and may be augmented by presentations from individuals with disabilities who meet background screening requirements.

Each public school must establish a disability history and awareness advisory council consisting of six teachers employed at the school and one community member with a disability, meeting at least four times yearly.

The council must provide input on disability history curriculum, assist in locating disabled presenters, and submit annual reports to the school district superintendent by August 1 each year containing recommendations on disability awareness at the school.
