CS/CS/HB 223 Summary

• Allows examination fees to be apportioned across multiple parts of the professional geologist licensure examination and made refundable if applicants are ineligible to take all or part of the exam.

• Increases professional geology work experience requirement from 5 to 7 years, with allowances for academic coursework and teaching to count toward this requirement.

• Creates new "geologist-in-training" registration allowing applicants to take and pass only the fundamentals of geology portion of the licensure examination.

• Exempts registered geologists-in-training from retaking the fundamentals of geology portion when they later apply for full professional geologist licensure.

• Takes effect January 1, 2015.
