Clarifies that cases must be referred to district medical examiners when a death involves circumstances listed in s. 406.11, occurs more than 12 months after last treatment by a physician, or involves suspected unlawful act or neglect.

Prohibits medical examiners and counties from charging fees to members of the public or persons licensed under chapter 497 for examinations, investigations, or autopsies performed pursuant to s. 406.11.

Takes effect October 1, 2014.
