HB 333 Summary

• Amends Florida's Ban on Texting While Driving Law by revising penalties under section 316.305, Florida Statutes.

• First violation remains a noncriminal traffic infraction as a nonmoving violation, but fines are doubled if the violation occurs in a legally posted school zone or designated school crossing.

• Second or subsequent violations within 5 years of a prior conviction are classified as noncriminal moving violations, with fines doubled if occurring in a school zone or school crossing regardless of where the prior violation occurred.

• Effective date: July 1, 2014.
