CS/HB 533 Summary

• Expands eligibility for extracurricular activities at public schools to include charter school students, home education students, virtual school students, and certain private school students.

• Allows students attending public schools that don't offer specific activities to participate in those activities at other public schools within their district or through interdistrict open enrollment policies.

• Requires district school board eligibility policies for extracurricular activities to apply evenly to all students regardless of the activity in which they participate.

• Establishes transfer deadline for FHSAA athletic competition as no earlier than the date authorized for the beginning of practice for each sport, or if practice begins before the first grading period, no earlier than the first day of that grading period.

• Requires preparticipation physical evaluation forms to advise students to complete cardiovascular assessment including an electrocardiogram, and mandates the FHSAA provide parents with literature on the importance of cardiovascular screening.
