CS/HB 697 Summary

• Amends Schedule I controlled substances list to add numerous hallucinogenic and synthetic drugs including MDPV, methylmethcathinone, and various designer drugs and synthetic cannabinoids.

• Establishes trafficking penalties for phenethylamines: first-degree felony for 10-200 grams, capital felony for 30+ kilograms with knowledge that death would likely result.

• Provides reduced penalties for possession of 3 grams or less of specified controlled substances, classified as first-degree misdemeanor.

• Updates the Criminal Punishment Code to incorporate the new controlled substances and trafficking offenses into the sentencing guidelines.

• Takes effect upon becoming law.
