CS/CS/HB 839 - Driver Licenses Summary

• Prohibits the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles from accepting resubmission of driver license suspensions imposed for failure to comply with civil penalties, appear at hearings, or attend driver improvement school.

• Allows a clerk of court to remove a habitual traffic offender designation if the person provides proof of compliance while their license was suspended or revoked after a third violation of driving with a suspended or revoked license.

• Authorizes the department to issue a driver license with any required restrictions to applicants whose driving privilege is suspended or revoked in another state for an offense that would not be grounds for suspension or revocation in Florida.

• Suspensions remain on department records for 7 years from the date imposed and are automatically removed after expiration of that period.

• Takes effect July 1, 2014.
