Board of county commissioners may remove and replace their single appointee to the Bay Medical Center Board of Trustees at any time, without cause.

Board of trustees consists of nine members: one nominated and confirmed by county commissioners, six nominated by board of trustees and confirmed by county commissioners, and two nominated by medical staff and confirmed by county commissioners.

All board members must serve 4-year terms and are ineligible for reconfirmation until approximately 2 years after termination if they have served two consecutive full terms.

Members disqualified from service include employees of Bay Medical Center, those with material interests (over 5 percent ownership) in competing healthcare entities, and those serving on medical staff committees of competing facilities.

Governor may remove board members for cause; board actions remain valid even if a member was later determined to be unqualified at the time the action was taken.
