CS/HB 1041 Summary

• Requires a licensed mental health professional to be physically present on the premises when registered interns in clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or mental health counseling provide clinical services in private practice settings.

• Prohibits registered interns in these three professions from engaging in independent private practice.

• Establishes a 5-year validity period for intern registrations, with registrations issued on or before March 31, 2015 expiring March 31, 2020 and not renewable, while those issued after March 31, 2015 expire 60 months from issuance.

• Requires individuals intending to satisfy postgraduate or graduate-level practicum, internship, or field experience in Florida to register as an intern before commencing that experience.

• Effective July 1, 2014.
