HB 1097 Summary

• Expands the Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission from 3 members to 9 members effective October 1, 2014, consisting of a chair and 8 members appointed by the Governor subject to Senate confirmation.

• Four of the eight members must be appointed from lists submitted by the President of the Senate (representing even-numbered regional workforce boards), and four from lists submitted by the Speaker of the House (representing odd-numbered regional workforce boards).

• Chair must have qualifications required by law for a circuit court judge, serve a 4-year term, devote full time to commission duties, and receive a salary equal to that of a circuit court judge.

• Eliminates the $100 daily stipend for the eight regular members, who now serve 2-year terms instead of 4-year terms.

• Requires a quorum of four members plus the chair for the commission to conduct business.
