• Amends Florida Statute 400.141 to require all licensed nursing home facilities to maintain general and professional liability insurance coverage at all times.

• Mandates nursing homes carry at least $1 million in medical malpractice insurance coverage as defined in statute 624.605(1)(k).

• Provides an exemption allowing state-designated teaching nursing homes and their affiliated assisted living facilities to demonstrate proof of financial responsibility instead of maintaining the required insurance coverage.

• Takes effect July 1, 2014.
