North Broward Hospital District must appropriate $608,554.78 to Charles Pandrea as compensation for the death of his wife Janet Pandrea resulting from medical negligence.

Janet Pandrea died April 2, 2002, after being misdiagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma when she actually had a benign thymoma; pathologist Peter Tsivis, M.D. breached the standard of care in his diagnosis and interpretation.

A jury returned a verdict of $808,554.78 on June 8, 2005, reduced to final judgment on June 15, 2005; the hospital district has already paid the statutory limit of $200,000 under Florida Statutes section 768.28.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses relating to this claim may not exceed 25 percent of the awarded amount.

The combined payments from the statutory limit and this appropriation constitute sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from Janet Pandrea's death.
