Acknowledges that President Dwight D. Eisenhower was convinced to add the phrase after hearing Reverend George Docherty's sermon on February 7, 1954, noting the phrase appeared in the Gettysburg Address.

Notes that Representative Charles Oakman of Michigan and Senator Homer Ferguson of Michigan introduced a joint resolution during the week of February 8, 1954, to amend the Pledge of Allegiance.

Records that the resolution introduction date was chosen to commemorate the five-year anniversary of Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty's imprisonment by Communists for his sermons about Communist efforts to eradicate religion.

States that the Pledge of Allegiance was first recited with the words "under God" on Flag Day, June 14, 1954.
