District school boards must hold at least one regular meeting each month, with at least one regular meeting per quarter scheduled during evening hours during the school year.

School boards must establish written criteria for deciding when to convene the required evening meetings.

A school board is considered in compliance if it maintains a policy requiring the public comment portion of regular meetings to begin no earlier than 4:30 p.m.

Special meetings may be called by the district school superintendent, the board chair, or a majority of board members, with actions taken at special meetings having the same force and effect as actions at regular meetings.

The act takes effect July 1, 2014.
