CS/HB 243 - Vital Statistics Summary

• Adds "burial-transit permit" definition as a permit issued by the Department of Health authorizing final disposition of a dead body.

• Requires death and fetal death certificates to be filed electronically with the Department of Health or local registrar within 5 days after death and prior to final disposition.

• Transfers responsibility for filing death certificates from local registrars to the Department of Health, and authorizes funeral directors to provide electronic or manually produced burial-transit permits.

• Requires the Department of Health to electronically notify the United States Social Security Administration of deaths occurring in Florida.

• Effective date: July 1, 2015.
