CS/CS/HB 893 Summary

• Amends Florida Statutes section 627.659 to revise the list of eligible groups for blanket health insurance coverage.

• Expands coverage to include local emergency management agencies and other groups of first responders as defined in statute, in addition to volunteer fire departments and first aid groups.

• Clarifies that blanket health insurance policies issued to health care providers may cover patients, and adds new eligibility for surrogacy agencies to cover donors, recipients, and surrogates without making coverage a condition of receiving care.

• Adds sports teams, camps, travel agencies, and associations meeting specific requirements (constitution, bylaws, 25+ members, organized for at least 1 year) as eligible groups for blanket health insurance.

• Takes effect July 1, 2015.
